Social sports betting is almost a dirty phrase, one that’s become so after a myriad of failed attempts to connect the two concepts. We’ve seen peer-2-peer models where the ultimate experience is that of taking money from your friends and there are tipster models that hold up ‘guru’ bettors and tout endless winners within their community all the while concealing their true dismal profitability and true numbers of losers.
It was from this landscape that Bet Blocks was born. We believe that true, meaningful, rewarding social betting is alive and well and happening everywhere, every day. The reason we cannot see it is that it happens behind closed doors, between small groups of friends on messaging apps like WhatsApp.
Ask almost any sports fan and they’ll tell you that they have ‘a group’ and in that sports group they exchange banter, knowledge and invariably betting plays a pivotal role. The pain point however is the fragmented journey between tipster groups, betting banter and actual bet placement – one that Bet Blocks aims to solve. This is the unexploited form of social betting that we call the peer-with-peer model.

From burly men in dapper suits lining racecourses, to a digital explosion online, betting has witnessed incredible advances and transformations in 200 years. But where is it now? Arguably little has changed within the last 10 years, sure mobile penetration has become dominant and the technology in our pockets has advanced but the actual fundamentals of sportsbook UI, UX and technology has remained largely unchanged. As the founders of Bet Blocks we asked ourselves – what is the future of betting? And then we built it.
The old principles of UI, from pages and menus to carousels and betslips and all their trappings are dead. The future we believe is based in Conversational UI – where sports fans interact with our brand as they do with their friends – through language and speech. Bet Blocks uses Artificial Intelligence coupled with Natural Language Parsing to understand what sports fans want before serving it to them instantly.
